Brian KM delivers clarity and inspiration
I'm on a mission to help students understand who they want to be so I can help them get there.
As a performer, I am able to connect with your brass players and chamber musicians of all types. In addition to being a soloist, I was the Principal Horn for the United States Pacific Fleet Band — let's set up the traditional masterclass!
As a composer, I can work with your new music community and student composers, and as an entrepreneur and multi-media creator, I can engage your entire student body.
The residency was a home run and more than I could have even imagined — the shows, masterclass, teaching, and engagement were a breath of fresh air for all of us! What I love most is that Brian KM's focus is on the creative, imaginative self and allowed all students to see themselves as artists in multiple ways. On a personal note, it was a super fun hang and Brian KM was one of the easiest, go-with-the-flow guests I've had.

— Jeffrey Agrell, The University of IowaOur students and faculty were impressed by the versatility and quality of your program. Your creativity and enthusiasm were inspiring for all in attendance. You are welcome on our campus, virtually or in-person, anytime. Bravo!
— James Boldin, The University of Louisiana at MonroeHe went far beyond a collaborator and performer, as he participated in the entire creative process, and I was impressed by his diligence, creativity, and many talents.
— Composition Residency ParticipantWorking with Brian KM was incredibly rewarding and helped me learn so much about working with performers, composing for horn, and working with other composers.
— New Music Residency ParticipantIn the coaching, Brian helped clarify what each member's role (composer, soloist, ensemble) was in the collaborative process of presenting a new piece of music.
— Composition StudentBrian knew how to intervene in powerful and effective ways without being intrusive.
— Chamber Music StudentCollaborating with Brian to write a new piece for him was a fantastic experience. His patience and generosity were only matched by his knowledge about and skill with his instrument. I would not hesitate to work with him again if the opportunity presented itself.
— Composition StudentBrian KM's offerings (Brian KM Live!, “Deep Sea Fishing for Creatives”, and coachings) during his stay on our campus provided our students with a fresh and exciting glimpse at where I believe the music world is headed.
His show Brian KM Live! blends a casual approach with musical excellence and virtuosic music making that invites any and every kind of listener to feel like they “get it” and belong at the show. Brian's experience as a composer of new music for an emerging medium made him uniquely qualified to coach our students studying brand new compositions this semester.
The “Deep Sea Fishing for Creatives” lecture was an engaging and honest presentation on helping artists discern what their gifts and goals are and giving them tools for reaching out to other creatives for collaborations that help to align mutual goals. His approachable manner, humour, and real-life experience kept our students deeply engaged and inspired to imagine future collaborative opportunities.
