My goals as a teacher are to:

Brian is my go-to resource for all things photography. He possesses a wealth of technical knowledge and an extraordinary eye. Enhanced by his musical background in horn and composition, his photographs reflect a truly sui generis nature. As a teacher Brian is patient, clear, and methodical in his approach.

background
I started photography like so many other photographers do- I read forums online, watched YouTube, and took a ton of bad photographs. Fortunately, I found some mentors who were able to help me sort out the good advice from the bad and figure out what it was that I was actually doing.
After college, I worked for the United States Navy as the principal photographer for one of their bands, where I shot with multiple camera brands. I toured the world and provided event, portrait, and travel photography under all sorts of conditions. It took some time, but I developed the skills I needed to be able to get the picture when under pressure- with "military precision!" My first college degree was in Music Therapy, where I was trained in advanced task analysis to work with older adults with severe profound intellectual disabilities. Although photography is quite different and photography students are very different, my therapeutic training has stayed with me, and I utilize the listening, communication, and problem solving skills that served me so well when working as a therapeutic clinician. I trained many of the photographers who worked alongside me in the Navy- many of whom have gone on to continue to provide excellent photography for the service, and some who have gone on to start successful photography businesses on their own! I am confident I can help you achieve your goals in photography. |
